Standardizing the Future: NAF’s Commitment to a Greener Nepal

Ensuring that “Green” claims are verified facts through the rigors of accredited oversight.

As Nepal stands at the frontline of global climate change, the integrity of environmental data has transitioned from a technical need to a national priority.

Validating Climate Claims: ISO/IEC 17029 and ISO 14065

The Nepal Accreditation Foundation (NAF) is pioneering the accreditation of Validation and Verification Bodies (VVBs) in Nepal. By operating under the framework of ISO/IEC 17029 and the specific requirements of ISO 14065:2020, NAF provides the basis for assessing and recognizing the competence of bodies that verify environmental information. This standard ensures that greenhouse gas (GHG) assertions and sustainability statements are accurate, fair, and globally acceptable. Without this technical foundation, climate action remains guesswork; with it, Nepalese industries can credibly participate in international carbon markets and meet global reporting requirements.

Supporting the Nepal Clean Air for Prosperity (CAP) Project

NAF is an essential stakeholder in the Nepal Clean Air for Prosperity (CAP) Project, supported by the World Bank and the Government of Nepal. Our role is to ensure that the monitoring of emissions from industrial and commercial sources is performed by accredited laboratories using internationally recognized methods. By aligning our assessment criteria with IAF MD 6 for environmental information verification, we support the national objective of strengthening air quality governance and enforcement across all provinces.

The 2027 Sustainability Pledge

“NAF pledges that by 2027, every major industrial zone in Nepal will have access to NAF-accredited environmental monitoring, ensuring that Nepal’s industrial transition is built on a foundation of verifiable environmental integrity.”

Internal Sustainability and Environmental Oversight

Beyond external accreditation, NAF is committed to promoting ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) and ISO 50001 (Energy Management Systems) as benchmarks for industrial efficiency. We believe that by providing the technical infrastructure to measure and reduce carbon footprints, we are helping Nepalese industries minimize waste, preserve our natural heritage, and achieve the low-carbon future envisioned in the national climate policy.
